Run 4 Uganda

Welcome to run4uganda

Run4uganda was set up by me, Matt Harris, in order to raise both money and awareness for the charity Invisible Children. A few months ago a friend linked me up to this video and at the time I remember not being that bothered about watching it, but because a friend had linked it to me I felt I should give it a go for him. After the first 30 seconds I was on the edge of my seat with my head in my hands. After watching I remember thinking to myself “that’s pretty bad, but there isn’t much I can do”, like the vast majority of people it would be unrealistic for me to pack up and deploy to Africa in hope of changing the world.

Having come to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to don my khaki combats and sandals and go to Uganda, I decided to do the next best thing and have a go at raising money for the people who are.

Invisible Children is a US charitable organization set up by 3 young guys from California. In 2003 they set out to Uganda with a camera bought off eBay with the intention of having an adventure and making a movie. What they found out there would change their lives and inspire a generation to sit up and say NO.

I have decided to put on my running shoes and hit the road in a bit to raise money and awareness for Invisible Children and ultimately the Children of Uganda.

Your support would be hugely appreciated, 100% of donations go directly to Invisible Children. Please feel free to explore the site and find out more about what I am doing and why.

Kilomathon

Last Sunday, I took part in the 1st ever Kilomathon. A Kilomothan is 26km (16miles) so its a good challenging distance, perfect training for a marathon. The event has never been ran in the UK until now so it was a real privilege to be able to participate in the 1st ever race. The day started early, I had to leave northampton at 6:30 to arrive in Nottingham for 7:40. We parked the car and I got the... [Read more ...]

My Training so far

I’ve always been pretty active and enjoyed running, and in October 2009 Northampton held its first running event, creatively named “The Run 2009″ . I’d been running a lot prior to the event, and saw this as an opportunity to try a bit of running competitively. Needless to say, I fell in love with it! So, in my usual overzealous fashion, I decided to apply for both the Edinburgh... [Read more ...]
